These beautiful handmade baskets are made by artisans in the village of Bolgatanga, in Northern Ghana. They have been made there for decades, providing a livelihood for many local families. Bolga baskets are made out of a natural and sustainable river grass known locally as Kinkanhe. Some of the grass is dyed with vibrant colors and is woven into intricate patterns to make the basket. The handles are wrapped in leather, and the baskets are strong but lightweight, making them comfortable to carry. There are countless uses for these wonderful handmade baskets. Patterns vary, most are colorful displaying different geometric patterns. Fair Trade.
Measurements are all very approximate as these baskets are one-of-a-kind, but the large Bolga baskets are roughly 14 to 16 inches in diameter at the top rim.
These baskets are perfect for carrying knitting, felting, crafting projects, picnic and snacks to the park, storing diapers and extra baby clothes in the nursery, storing wooden blocks, legos, dollies or other toys. Also great for carrying fruit and vegetables home from the Farmer's Market, or snacks and drinks to the beach!
PLEASE NOTE that due to their large size, these baskets will ship flattened, which is totally normal. Simply wet with warm water and reshape to your liking.
