I bought this for my shikibuton which is on a hard-wood floor, and maybe it is my imagination, but somehow it made it feel...even firmer than it felt before? I put a thin blanket between which seems to help. The more bothersome part to me has been the smell it has to it. I had read plenty of mentions of it in the reviews and was expecting it to a degree. I don't quite know how to describe it. It has a bitter, vinegary scent to it that smells vaguely of vegetables beginning to go sour. Definitely not the "fresh cut grass" I had gotten the vibe of in the comments. I will likely still use it until I find something better, I'm just not in love with it.Well made tatami mat, prefer it to a traditional rug. Slept on this once with a twin sized futon, has some of the igusa rush grass smell (which I like), not too strong. Have tatami mats in two rooms now, will eventually have tatami in each room, they are great for sitting or laying down and (I think) they are stylish.EMOOR is a Japan-based company, I see the mats are made in China, but again they are well-made and at a better price than mats made in Japan. Am quite satisfied, will get another tatami mat from EMOOR for second bedroom. Recommend.I love the EMOOR products, they’re quite sturdy and well made. Customer support is always right on it if you have any problems. I had Kotatsu blankets and such from them and decided I was going to get a full Futon from them as a guest bedding setup. I laid it out to test it to make sure It would be good for my guests….I haven’t put it up yet and use it for naps instead.I like that it is firm and smells like grass.Poor quality mat, do not believe in the positive reviews. There is a good reason why this mat is cheaper than the Japanese made tatami mats on Amazon because it is made in China. Poor workmanship, poor quality control. Right out of the box you will see many defects, rush grass unsightly chipped! EMOOR is also a very poor seller for after sale service. Be prepared to not have your issues resolved by them, they will blame you instead for their shortcomings in how they manage their warehouse in the US or how they manage their errors in product listing. Just try to get a refund from them will be impossible feat! Avoid EMOOR products at all cost. I have lived in Japan and customer service is a top priority in Japan. EMOOR Is supposedly Japanese company but they do not display the customary Japanese quality of customer service.Overall I am satisfied with the quality of this purchase. Two points a potential purchaser may want to know:1) There was an additional import duty/tax cost amounting to $72 CAD for BC. The seller did contact me to notify of this additional cost after purchasing online. 2) This item shipped from Japan, but according to the box is Made in China.Good communication with the seller and good quality products. But it is expensive. (Because it ships from Japan. If you order to Canada be ready to pay 50% of duty fees when the item is delivered. If your item costs CAD 200 you will pay CAD 300.)I actually bought this to sleep on and its awesome. its very firm but comfortable and it folds up nicely. very good quality stitching should last for a long time. The only issue was i did not check well enough and received a text to pay duty charges. i only paid about $30.MADE IN CHINA !!!!!!???? It suppose to be made in JAPAN .I need to know why or I will claim for refundthank youexcellent product! so much more portable than a thick tatami but you still get that nice, natural feeling when walking or laying on it. just slept on it with my shikibuton last night and it felt great.
