Today is Valentine’s Day! Rose Milkthistle is eagerly awaiting a visit from her friend Samuel Barleycorn. He wrote to say that he would be arriving promptly at noon, and so she has prepared her best Victoria Sponge, topped with fresh wild strawberries, and brewed a pot of her favorite raspberry leaf tea. She pops the tea cosy on to keep it warm while she waits.

Samuel arrives, dressed in his best sweater and tweed cap. What a surprise--he has brought her a box of candies! He compliments her on her dress—it’s a new one, with pink and white stripes—and she blushes.

They exchange Valentine cards over tea, and Samuel plays her a little tune he has composed on his ukulele.

The snow has been falling gently outside her nest, and so after the tea is done and the leftover sponge is put away, they bundle up in their winter coats and go outside to enjoy the winter wonderland. They even make a charming snow mouse together! What a blissful day!
